Whale Sharks of Santander, Cebu, Philippines.

All over the Philippines there have been a slaughter of both whales and sharks in the past. More and more of these creatures are protected today and monitored by different agencies in the country. The latest of these arguments are the whale sharks ofttract a lot of people coming there looking at the sharks. And this is where the problem start i think! People have no respect sometimes, or poor education regarding the marine environment. People climb, hang on to the sharks instead of giving them space. Impact like this can harm these creatures, look but don't touch, stay away from them a give them space, do not harass them in any way. So let us all come together and spread the word regarding these issues and help the locals understand what exactly they have in their hands today. Tomorrow this could be gone due to the impact of these creatures and that would be sad also. They are so nice to look at so way scare them away!!!

Black corrals’ consignee, shippers face raps

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Friday filed criminal charges against Exequiel Navarro, the consignee for the illegal shipment of black corals seized in Manila.

Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez also charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) Olivia Lim Lee, proprietress of the Zamboanga-based Lee and Lim Trading, who was identified by Navarro as the owner of the corals; one Ding Afeliano of JKA Transport System, the cargo-forwarding company of the shipment; and other officials, owners and employees of JKA; and Vicky’s Trucking, which transported the shipment to Zamboanga port.

The respondents were allegedly the ones behind the P35-million illegal shipment of 21,169 pieces of black corals, 161 stuffed sea turtles, and 7,340 pieces of rare sea shells confiscated by Customs Police at the Eva Macapagal Domestic Terminal in Pier 15, South Harbor Manila on May.

The BOC said the respondents violated Republic Act 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines and Republic Act 9147 or the Protected Wildlife Act of 2001.

Violation of RA 9147 is punishable by up to six years of imprisonment and a fine of up to P1 million.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said they will create a panel that will handle the case.

She added those charged for smuggling black corals will be put on a watch list order.

Navarro has been cited in contempt for failing to attend the Senate committee on the environment's hearings on the case.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, chairman of the Senate committee on the environment, said Navarro had already confirmed his attendance but sent him text messages to excuse himself from attending.

The senator said Navarro would have been vital in getting to the bottom of corals and stuffed sea turtles confiscated by Customs Police.

Navarro has agreed to cooperate with authorities and give the names of the financiers of the coral poaching syndicate.

CEBU CITY -- Millions of pesos worth of confiscated rare corals will be donated to schools, as teaching props. But lawmakers and customs officials hope to teach illegal dealers of corals an expensive lesson.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will submit its documents on the seized black sea fan corals in Cebu and Manila, at the start of the Senate inquiry led by Senator Miguel Zubiri, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner for the Enforcement Group Horacio Suansing, Port of Cebu District Collector Ronie Silvestre, and Enforcement and Security Services Director Nestorio Gualberto said the P15-million shipment of black corals seized in Cebu last week was consigned to Cebu Junk Shop. This, however, appeared to be fictitious.

Gualberto said they will file charges against Exequiel Navarro, the consignee listed in the bill of lading. He said Navarro pointed to a businesswoman from Zamboanga as the real owner of the corals seized in Manila and Cebu.

Silvestre said he issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) last May 24 against one 20-footer container van of the black sea corals, upon the recommendation of Captain Jerry M. Arrizabal, district commander of the customs police division.

Another 20-footer container van of black corals was earlier seized in Manila.

Arrizabal said the black corals were on board M/V Lorcon Manila of Lorenzo Shipping Corp., which arrived in Cebu last May 19. He said the shipping personnel cooperated with the customs authorities and turned over the shipment after it was abandoned.

Silvestre said that lawyer Edward James A. Dy Buco, chief of the Port of Cebu legal division, will conduct seizure and forfeiture proceedings on the black corals, so these may be forfeited in favor of the government.

Silvestre added that as announced by Suansing, the black corals will be turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

BFAR, in turn, will donate it to the different colleges and universities as educational tools.

Special Agents Enrico Mongaya and Andie Catre conducted an inventory of the shipment and found 168 bundles of black sea corals under bill of lading number ZA-016110.

Gualberto, who assured the public that charges will be filed on Thursday, said there are two violations committed by those involved.

First is a violation of Republic Act 9147 (Wildlife Resources Protection and Conservation Act), which carries two to six months imprisonment, plus a fine. Second is violation of Section 91 of Republic Act 8550 (Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Laws), which carries imprisonment of 6-12 years.

Based on the sizes of the black corals inspected by Suansing, Silvestre and Gualberto on Tuesday, they estimated that these were 50-70 years old.

"Our estimate on the age of these corals is based on the fact that these corals grow two centimeters only per year," Suansing said.

Suansing said it's impossible for barangay captains and mayors of the local government units where the black corals originated to stop the illegal trafficking on their own.

"Senator Zubiri told me there's a need for people to be made aware of the effect of the illegal harvesting of black corals, so they will help protect the environment," Suansing said. (EOB/Sun.Star Cebu)

What is your job in nature?

In the natural world all animals and plants, except for one species, have a job to do. For example, cockroaches are tropical insects originally who's primary job in nature is/was to compost dead vegetation and to feed other members of the food chain. Stromatolites produce oxygen and consume CO2. Wolves maintain healthy populations of deer, elk, bison, and other prey species. Sharks control fish and crustacean populations and in turn safeguard oceanic atmospheric gas producers and absorbers. Fungi decompose wood and other organic matter. Bees and bats pollinate plants and control insect populations. Mice feed larger animals. Wildebeest graze grasses low enough for other herbivores to eat. And so on, and so forth, and so forth. Everything on the planet has a biological job. Except for one creature. A naked and arrogant primate called Homo Sapiens. What is our job in nature? To show other animals how stupid it is to pollute? To teach other species that too much intelligence is a bad thing? To emphasize that single celled virus's can be idolized and mimicked well by a multi-cellular organism? Really? What a grand lesson that is don't you think so? I have heard people bragging about our great accomplishments as a species. Language! Art! Music! Technology! Civilization! Flight! Medicine! Sentience! We are astonishing creatures aren't we? The problem we have is our smallness. Our failure to remember the fact that we are not mysteriously exempt from or removed from other life forms and nature no matter how much we attempt to deceive ourselves with this grand notion of alienation and a sense of entitlement. To think of ourselves as great in any of the areas that we use as comparatives is truly a farce when you consider that there are other organisms on EVERY count who have done it before and better than us. We do not appreciate it often and we do not care. As a species we are greedy, self centered, arrogant, delusional, fraudulent, chaotic, abhorrent, destructive, filthy, egotistical, self righteous, and filled with a sense of self-entitlement and pride that is baseless and unmerited. We have hundreds of languages, some quite complex. Written and spoken communication. Does this prove we are "higher" than other creatures? Better than they are? More advanced? Not when you realize that "simple" insects such as ants and bees and wasps engage in chemical, and physical communication on a level that is as precise and in depth as our own. A single bee can do a dance that tells other bees the location of a food source, how rich that food source is, how far away it is, and what it is. Rats can vocalize warnings to each other about danger or food sources. They know how to test for poison, and can problem solve faster than many primates. And dolphins and other cetaceans have audio communication that is so complex and sending so many thousands of messages a second that we cannot even break the basic code and are unable to grasp a fraction of their communication with our meager "superior" minds. Their brains are also far more complex than ours, greater size, more lobes, and yet we think that we are such incredible communicators. Elephants can communicate using low frequency for vast distances. It is rather astonishing just how presumptuous we are as a species. We have art. We create things for visual impact. I am an artist. Surely I will not debate the merits of human art? Isn't it better than anything in the animal world? It would seem so,unless we looked to some of the birds of Paradise who make elaborate collections or flowers, berries, and shiny baubles to decorate their nests for attracting a female. Or the Bower Bird that builds and elaborate bower to draw in females. The male weaving and placing blue items around the structure. Cichlids and many other fish decorate their nests with shells and interesting stones for similar affect as the birds do. But our art is so much better because we just do it and appreciate it right? Is the practicality of animals visual art displays a nice way to underrate what those creatures find aesthetically appealing? We have music and song. Really? And animals do not? Ever listen to birds singing? Or perhaps the songs of male whales are not to our liking as much as other whales appreciate them. The songs of insects as they court each other, or frogs as they call out. Loons in the northern lakes who call out. Or the trumpeting of elephants? Are these songs less valid because they did not get a Grammy award? Animals have had their top hits out a lot longer than we have. Technology and Civilization! What about those things? Surely nature sees in us a refinement of these areas that no other animals have? Well if we ignore termite mounds that have active thermodynamic ventilation systems in them to maintain temperature and humidity. Or ant colonies and their elaborate excavations. Or wasps who discovered and made paper long before humans did. Or maybe it is our agricultural technology that sets us apart right? Well, that sounds good on paper, but the fact of the matter is that ants have been cutting leaves and feeding it to their underground fungus gardens and weeding out invasive species long before humans discovered or implemented agriculture. But we use tools to hunt and solve problems. So do chimpanzees who fish for termites with twigs and grass blades, who hunt bushbabies with sharpened spears, and crack nuts with rocks. Or orangutans who use broad leaves as umbrellas and make nests to sleep in. Languors and vultures use rocks to crack open ostrich eggs. Ravens and 127 other species of birds use formic ants as a natural pesticide by rubbing annoyed formic ants all over their bodies making the ants spray them with formic acid that kills and repels parasites. Birds such as crows add pebbles to water pools in bromiliads and hard to reach places to make the water level rise so that they can drink. Hermit crabs add stinging anemones to their shells to protect themselves from predation. Bats use echo location to hunt and navigate in absolute darkness. Spiders weave webs from a material with a greater tensile strength than steel. Insects like the Bombardier Beetle use explosives for self defense. The Praying Mantis has small pits in the side of its thorax that allow it to detect the ultrasonic echo of an approaching bat so that it can drop to the ground quickly in mid flight. Butterflies and moths see in the Ultraviolet and in the Infrared spectrum. But somehow we are the special ones eh? Flight! We have taken control of the skies. We can now fly in our planes and balloons and rockets. We can glide in para-sails, gliders, and other devices. Sounds incredible doesn't it? But lets see what other animals can fly or glide (some without wings)? Baby spiders or "spiderlings" take to flight by climbing to a high point and spinning a single long strand of silk in the wind. They can been known to colonize distant islands and flown for thousands of miles without wings. Bats can fly in true flight. They were the first mammal to fly, long before we even existed. Flying squirrels can glide for great distances. So can the flying snake. That's right I said snake. It compresses it's body after launching from a tall tree. It makes a swimming gliding motion and can sail for hundreds of feet by doing this. So can a small lizard called a flying dragon. It glides well too. As does the flying frog! then there are the insects. Dragonflies can out maneuver our best helicopters. Birds have been flying long before we evolved. And contrary to popular misconception, the fastest bird on Earth is not a "stooping" Peregrine Falcon. Rather it is the Kingfisher which was clocked by National Geographic researchers in 1972 at an amazing 1,056 Miles per hour in a dive! The first fliers to break the sound barrier! Makes us look a bit second rate doesn't it? Hatchet fish can fly. So can flying fish and butterfly fish. Even the fish have been doing it longer than we have. Well there is our use of medicine! Surely there we are unique? Um, afraid not. In South America macaws and other parrot species eat toxic berries that could kill them, but they neutralize the affect by ingesting a type of chalk clay that absorbs the toxins and renders it inert. Lemurs do the same thing in Madagascar only they ingest charcoal to get the same result. Clownfish rub continuously along the sides of anemones tentacles to borrow the slime that the animal uses to tell it's stinging tips not to sting itself. We already discussed birds doing the behavior known as "anting" to keep themselves parasite free. Lemurs do the same thing with toxic millipedes. Biting the insect lightly to make it secret it's noxious chemical defenses and then rubbing their bodies with the secretion. This keeps them parasite free and gets them mildly intoxicated. Sentience is self awareness. Here we must certainly be unique and therefore special! Well actually there are a few other species that are easily recognized as sentient. All of the great apes show sentient behavior. So too do cetaceans. Both examples show full cognitive self awareness. The same holds true for Ravens. Certain species of Goats and Pigs. Remarkable how non-unique we really are. And yet we still see ourselves as better. So let's review the facts. Animals share all of the same great attributes or hallmarks of "specialness" that we do. BUT they have been doing this since before we arrived on the planet! We have caused more species extinction than any other source in the history of our rather short time on this rather old planet. We have badly altered our atmosphere to the point that it is rapidly changing our climate and threatening us with the world's Sixth Mass Extinction event. An event predicted to be second largest of all of the previous mass extinctions except for the Permian-Triassic Extinction of 251 Million years ago. That one killed off 95% of all life on our planet. Whereas we will only fuel the extinction of 87-93% of all life forms. We have polluted the environment and poisoned and diminished aquifers, fossil fuels, mineral resources, forests, land, air, water, oceans, soil, atmosphere, habitat, and have done so while living in gross denial of the simple facts. We are a very sick, destructive, unnatural, and unworthy life form as a whole. Our planet can comfortably support a total human population of 2.54 Billion Humans without depleting the resources needed for continuous survival. yet as of 2012 we will be at a little over 7 Billion humans on the planet. And we have no job in nature other then a destructive imitation of a virus. Hell bent on killing off the host that it needs in order to survive. In defense of virus's they do not have a "superior intellect" to make better choices! We are jobless, greedy, slobs. Pure and simple. Our environmental worth as a species is zilch, zero, nada! And nature has been trying very hard to put us in check while we have kept pushing and pushing and pushing our luck. We have missed out on our niche lessons.We are NOT above nature or the natural laws that govern all life! We lack predators (for the most part) so nature provides us with pathogens, disease, increasing numbers of sociopaths and violent individuals. The urge of nations to fight wars. Increasing cases of sterility and reproductive failure and dysfunction. Nature is trying to cull us down. Thin down the ranks. But we don't "get it" as a species! Before men go out and get viagra or enzyte or other sexual enhancement drugs, take a moment and think, maybe there is a reason your equipment points to the south? We have over bred and reproduced beyond our sustainability. Where does it all end? What are the answers? Only time will answer all of these questions in a 100% certain manner. But I am fighting for the oceans and to restore balance. I have chosen not to sit on the sidelines jobless and just see how the "mass extinction thing" all plays out. The role of the species I cannot control. No one person can. But the role I play as an individual I can greatly influence. I will choose to clean up trash, to protect endangered species, to try to avert man-made and man-fueled mass extinction. Because when I die I want to know that my time on the planet was well spent doing something as natural and productive and beneficial as I could to make a positive change for any and all life forms. I must be the change and the solution that I wish to see. I must try to do something "superior" and worthy of the intelligence and potential which I share with the world and others of my species. In the end, I want to know that nature and humanity have realized a balance if and where possible,and that I had a hand in helping to make that happen.

Coral reefs are a very sensitive and fragile environment, that's why we have to take care and protect. No fish ever trashed your house! So don’t trash theirs. More than 18 years of making photographs and the love for the underwater world brought me the idea to make my own coral reef determination guide. This is not a scientific guide, but I try my best to make it as good as I can. It is not, and never will be complete because of the amount and diversity of animals living there. But nevertheless, this site will be updated a few times a year while I continue my search for the most unique species the oceans has to offer. Runt 185 000 arter har redan identifierats i världens hav. Störst är artrikedomen kring Australien och Japan. Även Östersjön har i förhållande till sin storlek ett mycket rikt marint liv men är samtidigt ett av de mest hotade haven i världen.

När 360 forskare från hela världen inom kort summerar tio års inventering beräknas de ha räknat ihop över 230 000 marina arter i alla världens hav. Havsinventeringen – Census of Marine Life – har genomförts i 25 biologiskt representativa regioner i världen, från Antarktis i söder via de tempererade och tropiska haven till Arktis i norr.

Den visar att haven kring Australien och Japan har den i särklass rikaste biologiska mångfalden. Där lever vardera nära 33 000 livsformer som kan klassas som marina arter. Tillsammans med haven utanför Kinas kust, Medelhavet och Mexikanska golfen bildar de topp-fem bland de biologiskt mest värdefulla havsområdena i världen.

Östersjön hör enligt studien till de hav som i förhållande till sin vattenvolym har den rikaste biologiska mångfalden, med omkring 4 000 kända arter. Innanhavet hyser en tredjedel av världens alg- och planktonarter och har i likhet med Medelhavet och Atlanten på senare år invaderats av allt fler främmande och oönskade arter.

Hot mot Östersjön
Men det finns mörka moln över världens hav, och den marina mångfalden är enligt studien mest illa ute i de mer inneslutna haven, som Östersjön, Medelhavet, Mexikanska golfen och Karibiska havet.

De största hoten är utfiskning, övergödning, förstörda livsmiljöer, främmande arter, utsläpp och syrefria havsbottnar. Till det kommer hotet från den globala uppvärmningen, med stigande vattentemperaturer och försurning av haven.

De olika regionerna innehöll från 2 600 till 33 000 tidigare okända och kända namngivna marina arter, med ett genomsnitt på 10 750. Omkring en femtedel av alla arter är kräftdjur, och inkluderar man mollusker och fiskar svarar de för hälften av alla marina arter i världshaven.

Resten utgörs av encelliga djur, alger och andra växtliknande organismer, ringmaskar, nässeldjur, plattmaskar, tagghudingar, svampdjur, mossdjur, manteldjur, ryggradsdjur och ryggradslösa djur. Ryggradsdjuren, med bland andra valar, sjölejon, sjöfåglar, sköldpaddor och valrossar, står för bara två procent av de kartlagda arterna.

Kosmopoliter
Många arter förekommer i fler än en region. De mest kosmopolitiska är mikroalger, encelliga organismer, sjöfåglar och marina däggdjur som utforskar en försvarlig del av världshaven under sin livstid. Hur de mikroskopiska arterna kan vara så spridda är en gåta, men forskarna tror att de har en unik förmåga att överleva under svåra miljöförhållanden och sedan föröka sig kraftigt i gynnsammare miljöer.

Bland fiskarna är den regnbågsskimrande silverblå huggormsfisken, Chauliodus sloani, den överlägsna globetrottern – den har registrerats i mer än en fjärdedel av världens hav.

Flest endemiska arter (arter som bara lever där) finns i vattnen kring Nya Zeeland, Antarktis, Australien och Sydafrika. Minst har Östersjön, närmare bestämt en, smaltång (Fucus radians).

Ögonblicksbild
Forskarna har bara hunnit kartlägga en bråkdel av alla marina arter på jorden. Men de data som samlats i det globala registret för marina arter (Worms) kommer att bli mycket värdefulla i framtiden, rapporterar forskarna i tidskriften Plos One.

– Vi har utforskat nya områden och nya ekosystem, upptäckt nya arter och funnit tidigare kända arter på helt nya platser, säger Patricia Miloslavich vid Simon Bolivár-universitet i Caracas, Venezuela, en av de forskare som lett projektet.

Kartläggningen visar på stora skillnader i artrikedom mellan olika havsregioner. En viktig lärdom av projektet är att man ska akta sig för att direkt överföra kunskaper om biologisk mångfald från ett område till ett annat.

När projektet slutrapporteras i oktober i år väntas forskarna ha kunskap om över 230 000 marina arter. Men minst fyra gånger så många arter återstår ännu att upptäcka i världshaven.

– Oceanerna är så vidsträckta att efter tio års arbete har vi bara kunna skapa oss en ögonblicksbild av vad som lever i haven, säger biologen Nancy Knowlton vid amerikanska Smithsonian Institution.

Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the fourteenth and current president of the Philippines! The last few day she have spent here in Moalboal on a live-aboard diving on Pescador Island. The live-aboard is accompanied buy three naval gun ships which are cruising around the island in the distance. This is not the first time the first lady are visiting Moalboal for diving, a few years back she was here but then she was diving from Panagsama Beach. This time she choose to come on a live-aboard instead which is for sure nicer for her. The diving is so good at the moment so even the first lady of the Philippines are joining us here in Moalboal. Moalboal has one of the world best diving at the moment so come down and joins us as well for some spectacular diving around the island.

Relocating of Crown of Thorn Starfish and whale watching!

Today we did two dives today on Pescador Is collecting Crown of Thorn! First dive we started at the cave and the we moved towards the east by cowering the whole north side.
Second dive we started in the south and then we moved towards the cave. So today we have been swimming all around Pescador Is collecting crown of thorns. We estimate
we collected something around 400 to 500 during these two dives today. Mostly in water very shallow on top of the plato all around the island. After we where finish collecting them we went straight towards Negros Is in the middle of the straight. Here we dumped all back in to the ocean to a depth of around 500 meter. This we call relocating instead of collecting! It both sounds and fell better to do it this way for. Nothing will survive down there in that black whole and in that kind of temperature any how. See you later Crown of Thorn Starfish!!!

Not only the staff from Neptune was with on the boat! Lantaw staff as well but most of all the kids who where swimming and enjoying the day out on Pescador Is. Even Max enjoyed his day on the boat as well as swimming with the kids the whole day. After the first dive lunch was served on the boat for everybody. Then we spent a few hours with the kids swimming and snorkeling on Pescador. During the second dive the kids continue swimming and enjoying the day. When we got back from the dive they told us about all the dolphins they have seen further out towards Negros Is. So when where finish collecting the Crown of Thorns we headed out for some dolphin watching as well. Guess if we where lucky? Yes we where because we saw plenty of dolphins all around the boat for one hour or so. The kids where very happy to see them, so was the rest of us i have to say.

Biking with the kids!

On Aidan's birthday he got a new mountain bike from me and Lybeth. He wanted a new bike because Alliah have one already. Actually the bike Alliah have i bought for Lybeth but when Alliah saw this she just took this over. So of course Aidan wanted one also for him self. They are both very good bikers and we try to bike as often we can now day me and the kids. This is both nice exercise and you also have change to see something new around here in Moalboal. We bike in Santander and Dumaguete as well so we always bring the bikes with us, hassle but what can you do when you love your kids!!!

31 year record high temperature!

This summer have been incredible hot and humid. This is a 31 year record high temperature in the Philippines this summer. The weather is fine and the diving conditions are incredible good as well. Nice visibility and very calm ocean so it could not be better. This is the time for very good whale watching since the ocean is so calm. Diving could not be better as well with still a large bait ball of anchovies around on Pescador Is. In and around this bait ball Thresher Sharks have been sited on numerous occasions this year. The diving only get's better and better here in Moalboal i have to say. The other day the rain returned to us here in the Philippines, have a look at the nice picture taken over Negros Is in the afternoon. The rain is needed so we all are very happy down here for this now. It started nice and slowly and we hope it goes on like this instead or a lot of rain and then nothing again. Now it rains a few hours a day only, or in the middle of the night and that is fine for us...

Whales in the Philippines

The other day when my wife and the kids went from Sibulan, Negros is back to Santander, Cebu Is with the local banca boat. During there trip back the captain spotted a few whales close buy the boat, Bryde's Whales (Balaenoptera edeni). He instantly stopped the boat because he was afraid of running over the whales. This have happen in the past he told my wife and both the boat and the whale will get damaged from this. In some cases the whale will even die from the injuries it sustain from the boats propeller. The captain told the people on the boat not to be afraid because it is only whales and that they harmless. This shows that the captain not only knows what he is talking about but that he cares of the wales as well. I'll take my hat of for the man and i wished there where more people like him around here in the Philippines and also in the rest of the world.

Whale watching can be allot of fun. It can be done from land, sea or air, depending on how close the whales or dolphins are to shore and how much money you are willing to spend looking for them. This time of the year whale watching are at the best due to the weather conditions. Your chances of seeing a whale or dolphins are best, of course, when the seas are flat. Agitated seas, high winds, excessive glare or haze make it more difficult to see them. More often than not, whale watchers will get little more than a brief glimpse of cetacean's back. You may spot them from afar, their regular blows giving away their location. They may even linger on the surface as you approach. However, the minute your boat gets to close for comfort, most whales will probably do a terminal dive and get as far away from you as they can.

Plan to rescue dive spot raised with governor

CEBU Provincial Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia met with resort stakeholders and Local Government Units (LGUs) yesterday afternoon in Moalboal town, Cebu.

The dive shop owners had written the Provincial Government asking it to address the destruction of marine life in Pescador, Moalboal, Cebu.

Edward Shaap, owner of Ravenala Resort, expressed his grief about the current destruction of the diving spots.

The resort owners presented their solutions for the problem. They said there should be proper implementation of rules and ordinances.

They said divers who come to see the supposed treasures under the sea are left with nothing.

Shaap said this has been very disturbing, especially when he sees the treasure sharks being slaughtered and sold in the Moalboal market the next day.

Garcia expressed appreciation for the concerns of the dive shop owners, some of whom are foreigners.

Solutions

The governor said the Province will immediately make definite guidelines and commitments, but she wanted to hear the side of the LGUs first and that of the fisherfolks.

Former mayor Titing Cabaron, who is a mayoral candidate of One Cebu, presented the LGUs side. He said that there are rules and laws, but they need help from the Maritime police.

Resolution 1077 dated December 11, 1995 enacts an ordinance in order to declare and establish Pescador Island as municipal marine park with a marine sanctuary.

The governor said she wanted immediate solutions.

She said officials should be able to define the boundaries of Pescador Island.

She said the Province will turn over one speedboat for the Maritime police. There will also be one pump boat for the fisherfolks and one more speedboat from the association of dive shop owners.

A representative from the navy said they will make their presence felt around Tañon Straight and Pescador Island.

The coastguard said it will also provide additional personnel.

There are now only four Bantay Dagat wardens overseeing the area. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, however, have trained ten more who will graduate next week.

Garcia said she will ask Cebu Provincial Police Director Erson Digal to provide more personnel.

The LGU’s were also ordered to make ordinances to punish those who buy slaughtered treasure sharks and those who sell them.

Garcia also challenged the fisherfolks who are receiving a 40% share from the resorts’ income to help out.

“You better do what you need to do!” she said.

The fishermen said those who do illegal activities are non-members of the fisherfolk organization.

With passion

The divers who were present said they are willing to help train the fisherfolks. They said they can also help by cleaning up the reefs and removing nets stuck in the corals.

Garcia said she will make an Executive Order that mandates the task force to identify what and where fisherfolks are in fact actively involved in protecting Pescador Island.

The 40% share in income will only be given to active organizations.

Lawyer Mariano Mar-tinquilla shall craft the executive order.

Garcia will be back in Moalboal next Friday to sign it.

At the same time, it will be the graduation day of the 10 fish wardens who are trained by BFAR.

She is asking them to believe in the cause.

The task force or PNP can eventually come up with an eco-tourism plan.

Also present in the meeting were One Cebu vice-gubernatorial candidate Glenn Soco, deputy speaker Pablo “Pabling” Garcia.

The 33-year-old native of Lativa swam from La Libertad, Negros Oriental to Moalboal, Cebu last April 10 to help promote the tourism in the Southern town he has fallen in love with.

“They must understand that tourism is a big industry and it’s giving the country and its people good income. I have been in more than 50 countries all around the world and I know that. If I can give it to this country, then I would like to give it,” said Slisans, who added he is confident the “Philippines will be the number one tourism destination.”

During his 25-kilometer swim, he was supported by friends Raul Aquino and Caidec Legara from Neptune Diving Center.

After that, Slisans of thinking of doing a 24-hour bike ride and this time, he’s inviting other people to join him.

Slisans, who owns a diving business back in his hometown, said he has a big experience in tourism. He was with a team of European divers when they first came to Cebu last year and they spent one week in Moalboal and Malapascua.

He enjoyed diving so much and had fun relating with people that he opted to come back with more divers from Russia and other parts of Europe.

Already on his sixth month of stay in Moalboal, Slisans, who is now joined by his wife, plans to stay in the island for good.
“The people are really kind and helpful,” said Slisans.

To prepare for his 22-km. swim, Slisans started mental and physical training five months ago, doing 250 push ups a day to strengthen his muscles.

He also biked 15 to 20 kilometers and followed a strict diet of rice and vegetables only.

His original plan was to swim from Moalboal to La Libertad but decided to change the course because he felt it was easier to swim home.

The expat started at 6 a.m. and finished at 5 p.m. with almost 200 town people witnessing the event. He swam for 10 hours and 50 minutes and covered a distance of 25 kilometers from the original 22 because the current pushed him north.

The swimmer was able to sustain jellyfish bites and big wounds on his legs for swimming in shorts; he even quipped that there were times he thought of ditching the shorts all together.

Jeri Mari Trisha Abenido, a resident from Panagsama, was thrilled when she learned about it.

“Almost 25 percent of the people in Panagsama are foreigners.

It’s nice to know that at least one of them cares enough to promote tourism here. In a way, I’m proud of him,” she added.

Slisans is resting from his 25-kilometer swim and is planning to promote the Philippines to the Russian and other European tourism agencies. He is also seeking government help for faster promotion of the country’s tourism industry.

Tañon unlike any worldwide

THERE’s another reason to protect Tañon Strait.
American marine biologist Kent Carpenter said Tañon Strait, the narrow stretch of sea between the southern end of Cebu and Oriental Negros, may offer answers on why and how certain marine organisms are resilient to climate change.

Aside from this, Tañon Strait’s geology can be considered the “most unique in the world” as it was formed when two islands—Cebu and Negros—which used to be far from each other, moved closer.

“Over 55 million years ago, Cebu started to move from where Papua New Guinea is now while Negros came from the opposite direction. The strait must have accumulated an extremely unique group of marine organisms,” said Carpenter, who has studied the Philippines’ marine waters for about 30 years and has declared the seas around the Visayas to be the richest in biodiversity.

He said that during the Ice Age, the Tañon Strait was cut off from other seas so organisms in the area must have evolved differently.

Too special

“It’s too special a place to tamper with,” he said, reacting to plans to explore oil in the Tañon Strait. He added that the strait needs to be considered as a national heritage.

He said he plans to conduct a study on the species of marine organisms in the strait. He plans to start the study within a year or two.

Carpenter noted that while the Tañon Strait has been declared a national protected area, enforcement of protection laws has been wanting.

Still, he commends the Philippines for having the most number of marine protected areas in Asia. In Cebu, he cited the marine protected areas (MPAs) off Gilutongan Island in Cordova, Sam-boan, Sumilon (Oslob) and Moalboal.

“But only a small percentage of Philippines MPAs are well-managed. It’s not perfect but I’m hopeful that some environments will be preserved over a long period of time,” he said.

He stressed the importance of establishing a network of MPAs and strict enforcement of laws against destructive fishing practices.

Economic sense

He said communities and local governments tasked to manage MPAs should use the fees collected from divers to finance maintenance and protection measures.

He stressed that protecting the country’s marine environment also makes economic sense with long-term benefits.

Carpenter was in Cebu last week to talk to students in different universities about the importance of protecting the biological diversity of marine life in the Philippine seas.

His talks with Cebu students were part of the Coral Triangle Initiative, a joint project of six countries (Indonesia, Malaysia (Sabah), Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste), their neighbors (Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu) and partners, including the United States, United Kingdom and the World Wildlife Fund.

The initiative aims to come up with national and regional (within the Coral Triangle) action plans to protect and manage the marine diversity in the Coral Triangle.

Scientists report that the Coral Triangle is home to more than 500 species of corals and 3,000 fish species. It holds 53 percent of the world coral reefs and has the greatest extent of mangrove forest than any region in the world.

Carpenter is one of the scientists assessing the threatened species list for the Coral Triangle area.

His visit to Cebu was part of the assistance pledged by the US to the Coral Triangle Initiative.

The United State’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and the US Agency for International Development have committed a total of $4.35 million to the initiative.

The initiative involves strategies to enhance the capabilities of seascapes; an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, where fisherfolk are given alternative livelihood; establishment and protection of marine protected areas; climate change adaptation; and threatened species assessment.

Martins swim from Negros to Cebu Island!

Martins started his swim this morning 6 a clock from Libertad on Negros Is towards Moalboal on Cebu Is. The weather have been very good today so the conditions have been perfect for his swim.
The support group, Raul Aquino and Caidec Legara have spent the whole day next to Martins during his swim in our small boat. The rescue group, Jesper Nyqvist and Johan Blixt have been on
stand by the whole day for any kind of emergency during the swim. Martins completed the swim without any problem and both the support and rescue group where very happy after this long day ended.

SHUT UP AND DIVE!!!

On Panagsama Beach there where a few hundred people cheering Martins arrival after the swim! A lot of people where very amazed that a person could swim this far in one day.
Martins achievement today shows not only that Martins is a very good sports man, but it also shows that people still get amazed from what other people is doing on a daily base!

MOST people put up large tarpaulins or put up ads to promote a product or place. But that won’t do for Martin Slisans, a 33-year-old Latvian who has settled in Moalboal.Slisans will swim from Libertad in Negros to Moalboal on April 10.“I want to draw the attention of tourists to the Philippines and Moalboal,” said Slisans “And of course because nobody has done it before.”Slisans, who hasn’t done anything like this before, will start swimming at 5 a.m. from Libertad and expects to reach Moalboal in eight to 10 hours.“I am not a professional swimmer; I am doing this long distance swimming for the first time,” Slisans said who used to work at the Latvia Tourism Office for 15 years.Slisan arrived in Cebu last March 2009 and was smitten by beauty.“I have been to different countries but Cebu, particularly Moalboal is beyond comparison,” Slisan said.He returned to Latvia and came back to the Philippines in December 2009. He has stayed here since then.The idea for a 22-kilometer swim first crossed his mind when he went out to sea for his daily exercise.“Moalboal is near the Pescador island and almost every day, just for exercise, I swim towards that island. It’s not that long a distance, just seven kilometers back and forth,” Said Slisan.Slisan said that one time, while he was looking at the sun set behind of Negros Island, he started dreaming of swimming toward this island.“After six months and after a long time of swimming, exercises and fasting I’m ready to do that” Slisans said.“The Philippines is generally a beautiful country. Moalboal is a breath taker and I have been here for several months and I have observed that there is so much to do here in terms of promoting this beautiful town. So we can attract tourists and generate income for those people living here,” Slisans said.And for Slisans, the best way to do that is swim 22 kilometers.

Best chicken in Moalboal

Remy Bertchi, our old friend and Divemaster here at Neptune invented the best way to cook a chicken in our barbecue. As you can see on the pictures the only thing you need is the chicken and one San Miguel beer in can. Then the only thing you need to do is to put it in our barbecue for 30 to 60 min depending on the size of the chicken. I can only say that the chicken was fantastic when it was ready. Our barbecue still rocks her eon the beach so don't forget to use next time you are here diving with us.

My old friend Per Magnusson and his family visited us here in Moalboal

Per och Eva med barnen Björn, Oscar, Sonnelie and Emma came and visited us here in Moalboal. Björn, Oscar and Sonnelie took their Padi Open Water Diver Course with us. Per took his Padi Open Water Course many years ago here in Moalboal with me as well. During their course did Per, Eva and Emma some touring around here in Moalboal with Lybeth. When the course then was finished Per Join the group for some fun diving at Pescador Island and here on our house reef in Panagsama, Moalboal. After they went to Dumaguete City, Negros for one night with us and from there they took the ferry to Bohol and then down to Panglao for more diving. Their trip ended up in Malapascua where they where diving as well. You all dive safely and we all here at Neptune hopes to see you around here again for some more diving in the future.

Kids River Climbing with Planet Action in Moalboal

Me and Jochen from Planet Action Adventure took some kids river climbing the other day. Alliah and Aidan was with during this trip and this is the first time they where doing this. Aidan is most likely the youngest person ever who have done this river climbing with Planet Action Jochen said. Aidan will be 6 years old this coming April 10 so he is still only 5 years old. Both Alliah and Aidan did fine swimming and climbing around in Kawasan Falls the whole day. After the trip both Alliah and Aidan where very happy and very tired as well. All kids who on this trip had one adult who helped them all the time. Most of the trips Jochen and his boys does from Planet Action young kids can go on. So don't forget to visit Planet Action Adventure on your next trip to Moalboal diving.

Latvian group diving in Moalboal

Alexsandr Marinicev and Martin Slinsans brought their dive club, Waterworld Expedition from Latvia to dive with us here in Moalboal. Alexsandr, a former world champion in underwater macro photography enjoyed the diving very much here in Moalboal. Alexandr took a lot of nice pictures here and i hope we would have change to see them one time. Martin who have been diving around the world also said the diving was really good in Moalboal. The weather and visibility in Moalboal during their stay was perfect.The visibility was more than 40m plus they told us. Both Macro and wide angle photography was good Alexsandr told us. Raitis Skilters was filming underwater and he also he said that the conditions both in the water and on land was perfect for him. Raitis films was very nice and i also hope we could have a look at this later also when all is finish. Marija Kapelka was the only one who did not dive when they arrive here. So me and Marija did a Scuba Diver Course while the others where out diving around here in Moalboal. We all here at Neptune Diving Adventure and Lantaw Restaurant would like to thank you all for coming diving with us here in Moalboal. Dolphin Watching & Caving for the kids in Moalboal

Neptune Diving Adventure and Planet Action Adventure organized a day out for our guests kids. Early in the morning we started with some Dolphin watching and in the afternoon they went caving in the mountains. Dolphin watching here in Moalboal is very good but few people are doing this. This is a very good opportunity for the kids to see dolphins in the wild here in Moalboal. Whales and Dolphins are available here in Moalboal all around the year but now in the summer is the best time to see them. Moalboal offer a very good and very easy way to see both whales and dolphins both for kids and adults. The kids have seen a lot of dolphins this morning so they were very happy. After this the staff of Planet Action took the kids caving up in the mountains behind Moalboal. Here they could swim inside cave full of fresh water. Planet Action offer a lot of different trips both for kids and adult. These trips are very good for people who like to have a day of diving, or if they don't dive at all. Moalboal is good for both diving and different actions up in the mountains.

My Papa was visiting us in Moalboal and Santander

My papa, Benny Nykvist came and visited us both in Moalboal and Santander. He stayed with us for 3 weeks and during this time we celebrated his 69th birthday in Santander. We spent time both in Moalboal, Santander and Dumaguete so he could stay with Alliah and Aidan while they are in school. Božidar Bajželj (Aquanauts) from Slovenia have been back again visiting us in Moalboal and Santander for diving. First week they stayed in Moalboal for there diving. Second week they stayed in Santander and from here they visited places like Sumilon Island, Cebu, Apo Island, Negros, Balicasag Island, Bohol and of course Santander, Cebu for diving. The diving in Moalboal was great with alot of nice things for them to see. From Santander the diving took them a little bit further to places Sumilon Island, Apo Island, Balicasag Island on day trips. Underwater engagement in Moalboal

Cecilia Bryngelsson and Benny Brumberg and there instructor / guide Joris Rombouts went for a dive this afternoon on the house reef. Little we all knew that this would be Benny and Cecilias engagement to marry underwater. Joris was there witness to there engagement on this beautiful day here in Moalboal / Cebu, Philippines. We here at Neptune Diving Adventure would like to congratulate them both to there engagement and future wedding as well. Joris Rombouts and Eric Gabales, our new Divemaster and son of Johnny Gabales have just arrived after a photo session at Tongo Marine Sanctuary. Aidan, my son is the one who takes care of the boat upon arrival as well. Joris is very good and Eric is learning from him with my camera. Todays agenda was the Ghost Pipe Fish down at Tongo, there are several different colors so they had to change in-between different areas to find them. This way of diving is not so bad as well, you ask Caidec nicely to borrow his little banca boat and of you go to Tongo. Takes only 10 min to paddle and the ride is very nice there.

Shark Frenzy

Tonki & Claire, Our old friends from Belgium are here again during there shark frenzy month. They have seen a few different sharks in the area this time and Tonki have taken some pictures for us to look at. The first one is from the baby whitetip sharks at Pescador Island in very shallow water. The other one is of course the whale shark, also taken at Pescador Island. Eden Resort official opening

Dennis & JanJan Pettersson, owner of Eden Resort in Santander have now opened the resort to the public. During the new years celebrations Dennis announced the opening of the resort to everybody's surprise. Neptune Diving Adventure will be responsible for all diving in the resort. From Santander we will offer diving in the whole of the Bohol Sea including places like Sumilon Island, Apo Island, Siquijor Island, Balicasag Island, Cabilao Island, Pescador Island in Moalboal and the rest of Negros, Bohol and Cebu Island. Thresher Shark jumping at white beach

Me and my good friend Markku was out biking around the white beach area today. After we have been exploring some new small roads there in the back of white beach we return to the ocean front for a beer. Right i in front of our eyes a thresher shark jumped out of the water three times. You can't really see the shark on this picture since i did not have so much time to take the shoot but you do see the splash after the shark have landed in the water again. Sitting there on the beach talking and then suddenly this shark jumps out of the water right in front of you is very nice, especially fro Markku who never even tried to scuba dive. He was very happy and so was i so maybe in the future Markku will start to dive also, who knows.

Whale shark encounter in Moalboal

My very good friend Peter Rados came and visited me again in Moalboal. This is the second time he is here trying to spot the whale shark. This time Peter was very lucky with his diving both in Moalboal and Apo Island. In Moalboal he saw the whale shark at last and he was very happy for this. Peter told us he will back in the end of the year again with his new wife so we are looking forward to this here at Neptune.

Malapascua / Cebu

Mark and Charles Scuba have been back again with us here at Neptune. This time we started in Malapascua for a few days and then after we went to Moalboal. Both in Malapascua and in Moalboal we had some very good dives with sharks and stuff. The high light of the trip was trying to see the thresher sharks at Monad Shoal / Malapascua. We went there 3 times and every time we saw thresher sharks so everybody was very happy. In Moalboal we saw the whale shark of course like we always do with this group. Thank you again Marl and Charles Scuba for coming and visit us and we hope to see you soon again.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Starting January 1, 2007, the Moalboal Provincial Government is proud to announce the Moalboal Marine Park Entrance Fee System for 2006. Tags (or tickets) are purchased for a one-time fee of 10 US$ or 500 Pesos and must be carried at all times while the guest is diving. It can easily be affixed to guests' diving or snorkeling gear. The entrance fee system has been adapted from the well-known Bonaire and Bunaken Marine Park systems. The local government will utilize these funds to finance a number of high priority conservation programs in the park, including patrols and enforcement to abolish destructive fishing practices such as blast and cyanide fishing, village improvement programs within the park, collection and disposal of plastic and other wastes entering the park's waters, marine conservation education of village children and adults, and reef and mangrove rehabilitation. Entrance tags and tickets can be purchased through marine tourism operators based in Moalboal, or can be purchased from one of several ticket counters. Enforcement of the entrance fee system is conducted via spot checks by park rangers on land and at sea. We greatly appreciate your support and cooperation with this entrance fee system. Conservation of Moalboal's spectacular marine habitats requires funding, and your entrance fee is a valuable contribution to saving Moalboal's reefs.

Bike tour on Samar, Luzon and Masbate

Me and Jochen from Planet Action went back for a new bike trip to Samar. During this trip we also went to south Luzon and Masbate. During this trip we visited some small islands outside Samar where the Pacific meets the Philippines. The waves out there was one of the biggest ones i ever seen in my life. On these small islands where many surf camps because of this so if you are in to surfing you should visit the Biri Islands. We also went to Legazpi City to see Mayon Volcano, have a look at the picture here. We also visited the Donsol area where whale sharks are found. This place was not much to have since there was no whale sharks around this time. Sorsogon is one of the most nicest areas i have ever visit in the Philippines. Nice roads and a very nice scenery so this is a perfect area for biking i have to say. We biked all in all around 300 km this trip but it was very easy this time due to all training before the trip. Jochen are the perfect companion for a trip like this, cheers for a nice trip Boss.

Our new barbecue "FAT BOY" or in Cebuano "BOBOY"

Our new barbecue was a success from the beginning. We found an old oil barrel in Badian at Aurora Hardware. We cut it in half as you can see on the picture. Then we put it back together again with a top and a bottom. Extra heat protection is build in to this design so the oil barrel will last for a long time. There are two separate grill nets, one cooking plate and then you can grill whole chickens native style. Simple buy a fish from the vendors here in Panagsama and come by and we will try it out. The barbecue belongs both to Neptune and Lantaw Restaurant so just pass by and try us out. Old and new friends are welcome to join us for a beer and a barbecue. Thanks to all the people who helped built this barbecue. There are many funny stories around this barbecue, just ask Cadiec, "our boatman" about the trip to Malaboyc. Caidec is on the right hand side of this picture holding his arm up.

Snorkeling with the whale shark

Today my old student's, The Riebe family was sitting in Lantaw Restaurant. They where all eating when somebody shouted SHARK! I was in the back room on the computer when i heard this. I ran out on the balcony to see what people where looking at? And of course there it was again on the surface swimming, the whale shark (Rhincodontidae). Johnny and Remy ran out first, i looked at Martin and then i took of also but Martin was not far behind. Johnny spotted the shark first so it was only to swim after him. The shark turned in the surface several times very close to us. At one time he swam directly in my way so i had to swim out of the way from him or we would collide. The shark was 4 to 5 meter long and he stayed with us for about 20 min in total i would think. The ones who did not go snorkeling was sitting in Lantaw Restaurant watching all of this since it was so close to the shore line. This was a very nice shark encounter i have to say because it was so very friendly, snorkelers with the shark in the sharks own environment.

Bike tour on Samar and Leyete

Me, Steve from Chili Bar and Jochen from Planet Action went for a bike trip to Samar. We did more or less the whole west coast on Samar all the way to Tacloban City on Leyte. This trip was one week long and we biked nearly everyday. We also went to one of south east asia biggest cave system which is on Samar. We walked in these caves for a few hours until we came out on the other side of the cave. We also did river hiking with a small boat. This trip was the whole day in the river so you understand how big the river systems are in Samar. We biked around 250 km during these days but i have to say it was a very nice trip. Steve and Jochen are the perfect companions for a trip like this, cheers for a nice trip lads.

Shark frenzy

This group of divers have been very lucky. During the past days of diving they have seen whitetip sharks, whale sharks and tresher sharks. Everyday during there diving they have seen different kinds of sharks. But the best sightings for them was the whale shark. On a few occasions they saw more then one whale shark during the dive. One is around 4-5 meters and the other one is about 10-12 meter they said. Even the tresher shark was very big. Maybe up to more then 3 meter long our guides said after the dive. Tresher sharks are seen more frequent now days and this is very nice for Moalboal. We here at Neptune Diving Adventure hope to see Mark and Charles Scuba soon again for some more shark frenzy.

A face lift for Neptune Diving Adventure and Lantaw Restaurant

Neptune Diving Adventure has made a face lift. We have change our entrance to suit our customers better. With the new entrance we also added a balcony in the front of the dive centre.This makes the dive centre more spacious for our customers. The balcony is the biggest change and by far the most appreciated. Even Lantaw Restaurant upstairs has a small face lift with new steps and fence. With the new fence also Lantaw Restaurant is more open for our customers. Since this face lift more and more customers comes to us for dining. Lantaw restaurant have by far the best view over the beach and the ocean. Old and new customers are welcome to both Neptune Diving Adventure and Lantaw resturant to see our new changes.

Our Boat "Bagyo" is back in the water again after some time on land

Bagyo is now back in the water again. She have been on land for quit some time now to dry. All wood work is done new on here. She also have a new engine in, V8 with 360 HP. We have done this so we can run our safari better in the Bohol Sea. She can take much more load and still maintain good speed this way. We have also equipped here with a fish finder and a GPS so we can find our dive sites easier. Another plan we have is to start to make fishing trips for people who like this. We have put up holders for fishing equipment and together with the other equipment like fish finders, we hope this will bring other customers as well who like to go fishing. Bagyo is by far the biggest and the best boat in the area today. So new and old customers are welcome to join our daily trips with here again, just let us know when you like to join our trips.

Whale shark encounter with Alliah Nyqvist and Kimberly

Today i got an sms from my wife "Lilybeth Nyqvist". All the kids from Looc, Santander where playing on the beach outside Pebbels Resort, Liloan Point today in the afternoon. While the kids where swimming and playing on the beach a quiet large whale shark decided to join as well. Lilybeth said that all the kids got scared at first but when Lilybeth explain to them what it was some of them went back in the water to have a closer look. The whale shark was swimming back and forth out side Pebbels Resort for about 10-15 min. Lilybeth said before it disappeared into deeper water again. My daughter Alliah was very happy to see this and i am very happy for here as well that she have the change to see the whale shark together with Lilybeth and all the other kids of Looc.

New Poseidon equipment arrive in the diveshop from Sweden

This Sunday our new equipment arrived from Poseidon in Sweden. We now have new suits, boots, fins, masks and snorkeling equipment for our costumers. We also bought new service kits for both our regulators and BCDs. If you didn't know it from before we have all Poseidon equipment here at Neptune Diving Adventure and we are very happy with this equipment. In the same time we have hydrotested all our tanks as well. Neptune Diving Adventure has now serviced all equipment included to both international law and local laws of the Philippines. You are welcome to visit us any day to try out our new equipment.

Manta encounter with Jesper Nyqvist in Liloan

This day i had been at my friend "Dennis Pettersson" place sending e-mail as normal. This particular day the weather was really nice and warm i have to say. When i was finish with my work i went down and sat on the beach for one hour looking at the nice view over Negors Is and Siquijor Is. One hundred meter or so away from me out there on the drop off i saw a manta jumping right out of the water three times. If it was the same manta that was jumping three times or if it was three different mantas jumping it is very hard to say. I never had the change to take a picture of the manta / mantas but it is still a very good memory that i will keep in the back of my head for a long time. It is not so very often you see mantas so it was very nice to see this manta/mantas in Liloan. Liloan is good for both whale sharks and manta and we have seen them both during numerous occasions.

Jenny Vrontakis, one of our divers here at Neptune came home one day from a dive at Tongo Point. When they arrived at Neptune House Reef Dong Raul said to Jenny that they should try to look for the whale shark one more time at the Neptune house reef. So they did and guess what they saw down there? a 8-10 meter whale shark just passed right in the front of them and guess if Jenny was happy after this. Dong Raul was named as the best dive guide in Moalboal by Jenny and then the party was full on. Jenny bought the drinks and the boys was drinking with here all night long celebrating this whale shark encounter together.
